Laser hair removal
Fewer hairs with every session
Laser energy is absorbed by the pigment in each hair and disables the follicle, so regrowth becomes finer and sparser with each session. Redness and small bumps usually fade within hours, and you can go straight back to sightseeing. A full course is usually 5–8 sessions 4–8 weeks apart, so one trip gives one session and the rest can follow on later visits or at home.

- Light through the skin. The laser passes through the surface; mild redness for a few hours is normal.
- Pigment absorbs it. The dark hair and its root take up the energy as heat, which disables the follicle.
- After a course. Regrowth becomes finer and sparser with each session. A course is usually 5–8 sessions.
Works best on dark hair; light, grey or red hair responds poorly.

Good to know
- Do not pluck or wax for 4 weeks before; shaving is fine, and you should shave the area the day before.
- Avoid tanning before and after, and use sunscreen on treated areas that see the sun.
- For darker skin types a long-pulse Nd:YAG (1064 nm) laser is the safer choice, and the clinic picks the device for your skin.
- Tell the clinic about recent sun exposure, photosensitising medication or any skin condition; your doctor decides at consultation whether to proceed.
Questions
Is it permanent?
Most people see a lasting reduction after a full course, but some hairs can return over time and occasional top-up sessions are common.
Is it worth doing just one session on a trip?
One session starts the reduction, but a single visit will not complete a course. It makes most sense if you can return or continue the course at home.
Is it safe for darker skin?
Yes, when the right device and settings are used. A long-pulse Nd:YAG laser is generally preferred for darker skin types.
Does it hurt?
It feels like quick snaps of a rubber band, and most devices have cooling. Numbing cream can be used on sensitive areas.
