Male chest reduction (gynecomastia)

A flatter chest for enlarged male breasts

Removes excess fat and, where needed, firm gland tissue from the male chest for a flatter contour. It is usually day surgery under general anaesthesia or sedation, with a compression vest for about 4–6 weeks and desk work possible after about a week. A short stay in Seoul is usually enough.

  1. Fat. Removed by liposuction through small incisions.
  2. Gland tissue. A firm disc behind the nipple, removed through a small incision at the lower edge of the areola when present.
  3. Flatter contour. A compression vest is worn for about 4–6 weeks while it settles.

Types and indicative prices

Many operations combine two or more of these. Prices are indicative ranges from Seoul clinics; the surgeon recommends a plan and the clinic quotes it after consultation.

  • Liposuction only

Removes chest fat through small incisions when there is little gland tissue (pseudogynecomastia). Suits a soft, fatty chest without a firm lump behind the nipple.

Good to know

  • Plan about 7 days in Korea for the post-op check before you fly.
  • Wear the compression vest day and night for about 4–6 weeks, or as the clinic advises.
  • Avoid the gym, heavy lifting and chest exercise for about 4–6 weeks.
  • A doctor first checks for medication or hormonal causes, which may need treating separately.

Questions

Which method will I have?

The surgeon decides at consultation after examining the chest, sometimes with an ultrasound. Mostly fat calls for liposuction alone; a firm gland needs removing as well.

When can I go back to work and the gym?

Desk work is usually possible after about a week, and the gym after about 4–6 weeks once the surgeon clears you.

Will there be a scar?

The liposuction openings are tiny, and a gland incision sits at the edge of the areola, where it usually fades well. Healing differs between individuals.

Can it come back?

Removed gland tissue does not usually grow back, but weight gain, some medicines, steroids or hormonal changes can enlarge the chest again.
