Pigmentation treatment in Korea: clarify what kind of pigmentation you have

Melasma, freckles, lentigines, post-acne marks, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation are not the same condition. A treatment that helps one type may be ineffective or aggravating for another.

Why skin tone matters

Patients with darker or more pigment-reactive skin can develop prolonged post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation after aggressive lasers, peels, or inflammation. Tell the clinician about:

  • previous post-laser darkening
  • melasma history
  • acne marks
  • recent sun exposure
  • medications and hormonal factors where relevant

Questions before treatment

  • What diagnosis or pigment pattern is being considered?
  • Is the treatment intended for melasma, discrete spots, redness, or post-inflammatory pigment?
  • Which device and settings are planned?
  • What recurrence or rebound is possible?
  • What sun protection and aftercare are required?
